Tempered glass

Tempered glass

Tempered glass is heated by the float glass in the tempering furnace to near the softening point, and then it is quickly and evenly cooled, forming a uniform compressive stress on its surface, while the internal tension stress is formed, so that its mechanical strength is high, effectively improving the wind pressure and impact resistance of the glass, and improving the thermal shock resistance of the glass.

It is widely used in places with high mechanical strength and safety requirements. Such as glass doors, building curtain walls, glass furniture, indoor elevators, household appliances, etc.

Peculiarity

1. Safety: When broken, it splits into small obtuse particles similar to honeycombs, which hardly causes major harm to the human body. When ordinary glass is broken, it is sharp and large flake fragments, which is easy to cause serious harm to the human body.

2. High strength: 4-5 times higher than ordinary glass of the same thickness.

3. Stable heat resistance: It has good thermal stability, can withstand the temperature of about 3 times that of ordinary glass of the same thickness, and can withstand the temperature difference of 300C. Therefore, it can play a short fire protection role in the event of a fire.

4. Large deflection: 3-4 times larger than ordinary glass of the same thickness. When the tempered glass is loaded, its maximum tensile stress is not located on the surface of the glass like ordinary glass, but in the center of the tempered glass plate.

Self-explosion of tempered glass

Self-explosion refers to the phenomenon that tempered glass automatically explodes and cracks without direct external force. The self-detonation phenomenon is mainly caused by the volume expansion caused by the phase transition of nickel sulfide (NIS) in the glass. Since nickel sulfide is mainly brought into the glass from impurities in raw materials, it is not possible to prevent the self-explosion of tempered glass.
